Episode 461 – 99% crap

This week, the podcast is 100% awesome, despite the episode title!
Glynn gets deeply philosophical about what inspires us to shoot in the first place.
Should we shoot for the images we hope to get, or should we shoot just for the sake of the process?
This included a reference to this post from David DuChemin.
We also veer off onto a discussion about the images with which we fill our hard drives. Should we keep them all? Should we cull? If so, how radically?
The only gear talk we indulged in was re: the Canon Rebel T8i, with its face recognition on an OPTICAL viewfinder!
Also, huge thanks to our (only, at this point) Tier 2 Patreon supporter: George G! Champion!

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.

Great episode (for me) as it addressed an issue I have been grappling with for years – what photos to keep, ditch and distribute?
    My current solution.
I shoot family, friends, travel and sport all RAW images.
All photos go into Lightroom and the dregs are removed.
All photos backed up to a NAS.
After further editing and culling, all the potential “keepers” are converted to high quality JPG
The JPG images are then kept in an accessible library with date and subject labels.
Appropriate sections of the library are distributed to the family, used in the blog etc.
It took a while to develop the workflow but it works for us.
