Episode 430 – Still shooting like a noobie

This week, I’ve been out shooting again.Full moon at The Skillion
It was Thursday night (the night we recorded) and I went back down to The Skillion to see if I could get a decent shot of the moon.
What you see here is a composite of about 7 images.
I used the lightest exposure for the foreground and masked out various parts to end up with the image you see above.
But as Glynn expected, I overcooked the moon itself.
More practise needed, clearly!

I also came across this graphic showing the sad and sorry state of the camera industry over the last 7 years or so.

This week, I also came across this non-photography-related site which I think we ALL need to visit!
How Secure is my Password will show you just how long it will take a computer to brute force your password.
Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
Worried that they’ll phish your password?
Just change one or two characters.
But if you’re still using one password for everything, and it’s only 8 characters long…. you know the rest.

Adam sent us a few stories.
NYC’s The Vessel (a building) has a rather “rights-grabby” set of fine-print conditions before you get in the door.
Then there was the awarding of a $120k photo competition prize being awarded to an image which was staged, which has got a few people miffed.
And Nvidia’s AI can apparently take your doodle and create a landscape photo for you. No more standing around in the elements waiting for the right light? Yeah…. nah.

Glynn saw that Canon USA has just laid off 60 of its workers.
He also read about the rights grab of The Vessel.
Also, it turns out that British Airways is a lot more generous with in-cabin luggage allowances!
Capture Monkey is a Lightroom plugin which will give you Focus Peaking on the images you’ve imported. The idea is to help you find the best-focussed image out of a sequence.
And Insta360 has a new foldable 360 degree camera.

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.

    Hi,
I was a little bit disappointed with the episode “still shooting like a noob” you talked about everything but shooting like a noob…. It felt like a click baite title 😦

The title was in relation to me shooting the moon, and over exposing it, and not paying attention! 😃
