Episode 413 – Quick Draw McGraw photo judging
This week, we talk about my trip to Melbourne, the laneways, and natural light portraits. Keen to hear if anyone else felt that the background of this image looked weird? I don’t THINK I did anything unusual with the processing.
Glynn talks about his rapid-fire approach to judging photo competitions. This has mistakenly led to some people thinking he wasn’t really applying himself to the task.
The finalists in the 2018 Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize have been announced. Neither of us was particularly blown away by the selections. Have a look, and judge it for yourself.
The new iPhone offers “slideable bokeh“. Of course, for the price, you could buy a damned good mid-level DSLR, but who am I tell you how to spend your money?
There are rumours getting about that Fuji is about to announce/release a medium format body for around the same price as a typical flagship DSLR.
I came across these lens-inspired watches, which I thought were pretty funky.
Adobe has teased a new content-aware fill interface, due late 2018.
Apparently, the new iteration of the tool will allow you to choose the area of the image used for cloning, the option to do so non-destructively, and to be able to rotate/scale/mirror the filled content. Impressive stuff.
Rob Coates found this collection of images from “an English photographer who holds little paper cut-outs in front of his camera as he photographs famous landmarks. The results are clever and amusing.”
We’ve mentioned Kaylee Greer and her dog photography exploits before. But Carl has advised us that she is now getting her own TV show on Net Geo Wild!

Hi Glynn,
I remember that whole week-end you spent in Biloela. Great workshops. Yes the speed at which you selected the photos did cause some consternation.
While I don’t always listen to the podcasts as soon as they come out I am enjoying being listener 7, or is it 8.
Thanks Bruce and Glynn for “The worlds best loved photography podcast”
Cheers,
Ian Collard
