Episode 411 – Bruce flying solo

This week, I’m going it alone, with Glynn still in transit from Fiji.
Rob Coates sent us this story about the Australian National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year Awards.

I came across this video on youtube about just how much resolution we do or do not need in our imaging sensors. And although we’ve discussed it before, this has given me a whole new perspective on the issue.

And after watching that, I went in search of a chart like this one, which is a handy reference for how much resolution you need for any given viewing distance.

Then, I found this nice story about the airline that went out its way to help a photographer get the shot he had imagined.

And while we are on feelgood stories, this one really touched me.

Then, on Thursday, this total shitstorm erupted on Facebook when high-profile Australian photographer, Yervant Zanazanian, had some things to say about the recent APPA Awards and Gala Dinner. Sadly, I can only link to Yervant’s profile, but you shouldn’t have much trouble finding the post, and the 100+ comments that follow it.

Attend the judge's briefingAnd although I said I would not take a side on this story, given that I don’t know Yervant personally, and I’ve never had anything to do with APPA either, some wag was quick to create this meme and put it on Facebook today. It made me chuckle.

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.

Just listened to Episode 411. Wow – best episode ever!
If I was feeling nit-picky I’d say it was a tad too long but hey, at least there weren’t too many speakers (well, almost).
    Keep up the good work.
