Episode 407 – The Glelfie

This week, David Marland sent us 3 stories out of India.
Three men lay dying in front of him. Instead of helping, this man took selfies. This sounds remarkably familiar to me.
Then there was the sober reminder of why you don’t mess around on active railway tracks.
And finally, how the Taj Mahal is in danger of discolouration due to pollution, tourisism and insects.

Steve Peters sent us the story of the disabled photographer overcoming his physical limitations.
And this chart, showing the rise and rise of the iPhone as the ‘camera of choice’.

Adam sent us this story about how Nvidia trains AI to remove noise and watermarks by looking only at corrupted photos.
The Nikon P1000 has an astonishing 24-3000mm equivalent lens,
and from the “No good for Glynn” file, 16 of the Best Apps for Landscape Photography.

Glynn warns us of the impending arrival of a new comet in our solar system,
a follow up story about the copyright court case we mentioned last week,
and this crazy story about how the U.S. Postal Service is on the wrong of a law suit over an image they purchased legally from Getty Images.
We didn’t get to include this in the podcast, but here is a collection of very clever photo manipulations.
And finally, the 3 vloggers who lost their lives for that ultimate selfie.

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.
