Episode 400 – Finally!
We finally got here! Woohoo!
Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen the acquisition of Flickr by Smugmug.
Just a reminder though. If you don’t want in, you have until May 25, 2018 to delete your Flickr content.
After that, all flickr accounts will get migrated over to smugmug.
Finally, there’s an end to the monkey business.
The frivalous lawsuit where PETA tried to claim copyright ownership of the “monkey selfie” images on behalf of the monkey that snapped them, has been thrown out by the U.S. Appeals Court.
Then there’s the story of how NOT to do social media and P.R.
Fan takes photo of band.
Band steals photo and removes watermark.
Fan asks for payment.
Record Company says… they said what now?
Californian photographer, film-maker, Youtuber, and author, Marc Silber, is about to launch his new book, “The Secrets to Creating Amazing Photos: 83 Composition Tools from the Masters”. It goes on sale May 15, 2018 at Amazon. Ahead of the launch, Marc joins us for a chat about the book. You can also check out some of Marc’s photography on Instagram and Facebook. |

Adam sent us a few stories, including one about NVIDIA’s mind-blowing AI-Powered ‘Content-Aware Fill’. Jury is still out for me until I see it in action on images with “normal-looking” damage.
Then, there was this bogus story about how AI is going to revolutionise low light photography. Not saying that it WON’T… but the sample images provided on this link are absolutely NOT representative of the performance you would get from those cameras at those ISO settings. There’s something fishy going on here.
Rob Coates asked if we had heard about this Wildlife Photography of the Year scandal?
No Rob, we hadn’t… but that’s stuffed!
Carl Hemmings sent in the link to Trey Ratcliff’s simply amazing collection of hundreds of Burning Man images. This definitely warrants an hour of your time at a minimum!
Adam Forsberg sent us the story of the wife and shark photoshoot. I couldn’t link directly to the video (which was hosted on Facebook), so you might need to visit the group on which it was hosted, Wetpixel Underwater Photography, and have a scout around.
Glynn went to astounding lengths for stories this week.
Gems include 400 photos by Ansel Adams (I only realised after we had recorded that this is (more than likely) someone simply pirating the contents of this book, and turning it into a youtube video).
Then there is a bunch of images shot at 400mm.
And some images shot at 400iso.
And some images shot on a Canon 400d.
Finally, we have some prizes to give away.
We asked you to send in your best/favourite travel photograph, and/or a selfie of you listening to the podcast.
