Shutters Inc – episode 320
The final episode for 2015!
First up, a massive thank you to all those who made donations via PayPal. I’m not naming names or citing amounts. You know who you are. Thanks heaps!
A small collection of user-submitted stories this week, including the announcement that the U.S. FAA is now requiring UAV* owners to register their vehicles. However, if you do so prior to February 19th 2016, you’ll get away with it for nix. Presumably, there will be a fee after that point in time. Thanks to David Jones for that one.
* In the podcast, I mentioned that we shouldn’t call them ‘drones’, but more correctly, should refer to them as UAV’s. However, I didn’t get around to explaining just why that is the case.
A UAV, by definition, is an Un-manned Aerial Vehicle.
But to be classed a ‘drone’, a UAV needs to be autonomous (capable of flight without human guidance). The current fleet of toys are not autonomous, but they are un-manned. Hence the distinction. 🙂
Adam alerted us to the fact that Glynn has a copycat who also marks up his images for educational purposes.
Enlight Photo, maker of the Orbis Ring Flash adapter, has gone into receivership. Limited stock of the Orbis is still available if you’re quick.
And Carl showed us the video, shot from the shoulders of an eagle as it descended from the top of the Burj Kalifa in Dubai (I think I accidentally said Abu Dhabi in the podcast).
And then it’s on to our chat with CPW’s very own David Oakley.
David has a tragic story to tell, but one which despite all odds, has a great ending (not that he’s anywhere near to calling it a day!).
Check out his pet portraits on Facebook, or his main website (as of December 2015, still under renovation) here.
I haven’t yet shot my image for PTC project #2. Oops. I’ll get onto that over the next few days and will get the camera and list packaged up and in the mail asap.
To all of our valued listeners, thanks for hanging with us for another year.
All the best for the silly season. Have a safe and happy time, laugh lots, drive safe, and we’ll catch you late January with episode #321.
Comments will be closed after 30 days.
