I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.

Many thanks for your podcasts. I am not a long time listener, but I am racing through the archives and all I can say is WOW!!
I am a musician, a web developer with moderate but growing skills and a wanna be audio engineer. I am sure you can see one builds on the others. I have much empathy towards your employment situation. I gained a new web account this week, a fairly big project, but had to resign it three days later because one of “office” politics. It hurt. For no really good reason…… Like your situation… and I do need the money. The point??? Misery loves company???? NO NO NO. The point is that I am moving on. The best strategic thinking in my/your case is to make only long term strategic moves. What will do the most good in a year…or in two years??? Crisis management will only guarantee more crises. I know this is easier to say than to do. Take this as an opportunity to do something REALLY big!……..Maybe something ABC would never guess that you could imagine having the skill to accomplish.. Success is the best payback. You may be confused for a few days, but I am very confident that you will regain your stride quickly. Carry on!

Sorry to hear the news! What a pain! What part of the states are you coming to? (feel free to drop by Salt Lake if you have time).

    Bruce,

Just catching up on a few of the latest pods. Sorry to hear about the job. While I’m sure you know your equipment needs for the home studio, you may need some other information. I have a number of Excel files I put together for keeping track of revenue and expenses and they can also be used for budgeting and planning. Of course, they would have to be “individualized” for your particular situation. If you know Excel, they might be useful.

I also have a parts for an Intel Quad core PC that you may find intersting if not useful as well, since AA 3.0 is built to take advantage of multicore computers.

I’ve started a few micro-businesses and changed careers a few times, so I understand where you are now. Planning, patience, persistance and professionalism win out in the end. I’m happy to share ideas if you want.

    Cheers,
